Iced coffee anyone?

coffee cozies

Yes, that's real snow. It's been falling steadily all morning and has converted this place into a winter wonderland -- or ice prison, depending on your perspective. BTW, it's hard to get a good picture in the snow!

I love snow. But I didn't move to the mountains and I'm not equipped to deal with it like this. I don't own tire chains, studded tires, or a 4-wheel-drive vehicle, which basically means both cars are snuggly tucked away in the garage and I'm staying put. Most years we have one or two days that are either snow and ice or freezing rain, but that's about it. It's just not worth it to buy chains or studded tires for a couple of days worth of storms.

This year, I feel like I live on Mt. Hood instead of in the Tualatin Valley!

Anyway, since I'm stuck here and since I had some "free" time between transcription jobs, I made some coffee cup cozies. If I can ever get to a Starbucks again, they'll come in handy and save a cardboard sleeve or two. In the meantime, they make pretty darned good wrist warmers.

Pattern: Cabled Coffee Cuff from Nicole Mattson via Ravelry.
Yarn: Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock, mediumweight. Blue ones are a rare gem that I think was originally intended to be In the Navy. Middle one is one of my favorite Christmas colors, The Cookie Next Door.
Needles: US 2 Harmony DPNS from Knit Picks
Modifications: Altered the stitch count and ribbing a bit to accommodate a slightly heavier yarn than the pattern used.

If you're anywhere in the country where this "Arctic blast" is hitting (and trust me, I know there are places where it's causing a lot more problems than it is here), hope you can hunker down, enjoy some eggnog or hot toddies or coffee or whatever, and be warm and cozy for the duration.

Cute cozies!

It snowed like crazy this morning on the east side, but the streets are all clear now. Just wet. Perfect!

Isn't the snow amazing?! I hear you about your sister in Spokane---my aunt lives in Couer d'Alene and she's just buried over there.

We live at the bottom of a very steep hill and so we walk or stay put. Cozy for knitting though. :) Thanks for stopping by my blog.
