Another year, another candle

Well, today it's official. I'm in my second half-century. Yep, 51 years old (young?) today! EEK! Don't know where the time has flown to. (No, I didn't make the cake. Found it online via a Google search.)

Celebrations have already begun. My friends Angel, and Mike & Irene took me to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory Monday night. A most excellent place! I had Hungarian Goulash and I highly recommend it. Delicious! Besides the wonderful dinner, they also gifted me with some awesome wine and a great star-shaped mobile (I have a love of stars, moons, and suns that's quite apparent around my house.) Thanks, you guys! Love ya, mean it! :)

Tonight is bowling league, wherein I will get the pleasure of rubbing in the occasion of the big 5-0 for a teammate. You see, he's a year younger than me and last year he made it his personal mission to have it announced to the entire bowling alley that it was my 50th birthday and also took the liberty of making several scathing remarks about my age. Tonight is payback. I went to Spencer Gifts today and got some goodies for him. 'Nuff said. :)

Beyond that, who knows? I just hope no one puts the right number of candles on a cake for me or the Fire Marshal will surely need to be called!

My Fortune Cookie told me:
You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely.
Get a cookie from Miss Fortune

Hmmm. . . I think this fits me pretty darned well! :)

On the knitting front, I decided to try my luck and see if I could get another pair of socks out of the leftovers from two skeins of Manos del Uraguay I used to make the Socks 101 test knit. I figured if I couldn't get a whole sock out of each small ball left from the two skeins I used, then I'd just finish it with some other leftover yarn in a different color and call it 'a design feature'. Turns out I could get another pair! Or at least I got half of one so far. I used the leftovers from one of the skeins and started knitting and the next thing you know, I finished and still had about a yard of yarn left! Amazing. Good thing I didn't keep my gauge swatch, but instead frogged it and then knitted. Otherwise, I would have run out at the toe. Hope the other remainder of a skein works out the same way. Then I'll two nice pairs of slipper socks! Sweet!
