Random Wednesday-ness

Can't think of a good title for this post, so there you have it!

Let's see. I'm plugging along on the Knotty Wrap after frogging the first sleeve. Went down a needle size and am now getting correct gauge. Finished the first sleeve and almost finished the second one at the shop on Monday, but haven't touched it since. After all, it is a shop-knitting project. No new pic, sorry.

Another shop project is to design a mosaic-knit fingerless glove in sportweight yarn. I got a bee in my bonnet about doing this for some reason. I guess it must take about a year for some things to percolate in my brain before I actually get around to doing something about them, since I bought a copy of Barbara Walker's Mosaic Knitting about that long ago and never did anything with it. Since I hadn't done the technique, I grabbed some cotton from the stash, read a little, and started knitting. I chose to work in garter stitch for now, although the project will ultimately be stockinette. I love this technique. Each "row" is really two passes of knitting so it can be a bit slow, but the result is really great with no floats in back like fair isle. I think this is gonna be fun!

Yesterday's mail delivered some yarny goodness from Deb at Fearless Fibers. I just love her stuff! These are two skeins of a very limited edition of color experimentation she did. She calls them 2OAK (2-of-a-kind) colors. The color repeats are really short so as to avoid pooling when knit. I'm glad I grabbed them quickly, because all of the ones she posted are gone already. Don't let that stop you from visiting her shop, though, 'cause her regular colorways are gorgeous, too, and her base yarns are very nice.

I've been transcribing a lot, which is a good thing, but the bad part is that it's a legal transcript of an interview with a woman who, along with her live-in boyfriend, was convicted in a case involving the abuse and death of her 16-month-old grandchild left in her care. It's not easy to listen to. Have to give the detectives (this is a case from 1999) big props for being able to listen to her in the same room for several hours without smacking her around.

Finally, and on a lighter note, last night I went into my laundry room to get clothes from the dryer. Ellie was crouched on the floor staring at the grate covering the heating/cooling duct. She was obviously in full-tilt hunter mode, but I couldn't figure out what she was hunting, so I lifted the grate. Still didn't see anything. But when I put it back down, she pounced. Turns out she was stalking a spider who had sought refuge in the grate and I flushed it out by lifting the thing. Being the great spider hunter she is, she pounced and promptly had herself a snack. I rewarded her with kitty treats. Love my spider-hunter! I think she views it as just another day's work. :)

Happy Hump-Day, y'all!

I have not done mosaic knitting too & have been thinking of knitting a pair of socks with this technique. Will love to see what you come up with. Happy knitting.
