Framed Feathers scarf

millicent - neck scarfPicture it: A yarn shop with a newly-received shipment of cashmere/silk lace yarn. Me, a part-time employee with an advanced case of yarn envy, ogles these wonderful puffs of fibery goodness. The owner notices and inquires, "What would you use that yarn for?" To which I reply, "A little, lacy bit of weightless beauty."

That's how this little scarf began. One almost weightless ball (just 25 grams contains 328 yards of cobweb-weight splendor) came home with me that day. After some swatching, some frogging, more swatching in sock yarn (you don't have to fool me twice to get me to learn that this fragile yarn doesn't like to be frogged), I came up with this stitch pattern that I think shows off the yarn quite nicely.

This is an intermediate to advanced lace knitting project. This scarf is knit in two pieces and grafted in the middle. Wrong-side rows are purled across.

Finished measurements, after blocking, are 9" x 50".

Suggested yarn:
Approximately 300 yards of cobweb or laceweight of your choice.
Sample was knit with one, 25-gram ball of Filatura Di Crosa Superior, a silk/cashmere blend, in color 19-Periwinkle.

modeledNeedles:
US 3 (3.25mm) or size that gives you a lacy look you like. Addi Turbo Lace needles for their sharp points and coating that lets the stitches move easily without flying off unexpectedly.

Here's the finished product being modeled by Bonnie, a yarn rep visiting the store. Thanks, Bonnie, you're a beautiful model!

The pattern is a five-page PDF that will be made available for download immediately upon purchase. It contains both written and charted instructions, along with detailed pictures and some tips to help you through the project.
